ALDI Thanksgiving Dinner
I didn’t use to be like this in the past years, ThanksGiving meant so much to me and my family. It was a time when we talked about the good, the bad and the ugly, it was a time when we weighed our experiences on a scale and still had reasons to be thankful. My highlight used to be the special Thanksgiving Dinner. My mum would do the cooking and I would lend her a helping hand. This was also a Mother-Daughter bonding time for me. My Mum worked two jobs, so we didn’t have the luxury of time to hang out often but ThanksGiving days always brought this opportunity my way. Ow how much I always looked forward to Thanksgiving, but here was I, contemplating on shutting out Thanksgiving Dinner, This year.
My mum had a very beautiful heart, she would invite both family, friends and neighbours, and she’d cook for everyone to eat, be merry and go back home with leftover packages. During Thanksgiving dinner, we would catch up on old times, make jokes and laugh out loud, after which we would fill our stomachs with Mum’s special Thanksgiving Recipe. ThanksGiving memories used to give me joy but the Covid19 pandemic impacted my life negatively.
The Pandemic took my Mum and left a hole in my heart, I have mourned her ever since. Losing a Mother is a Nightmare but blaming yourself for her death is worse than a nightmare. I used to think I was a brave little girl, but truly, no one is brave in the face of grief.
I stood still wWhile I walked down memory lane or should I say, ran down memory lane because the memories ran through my mind like a flash, it didn’t even give me enough time to dwell on them and at least smile or giggle but then I kept asking myself if there was just any reason for me to be Thankful enough to join others in celebrating this year’s Thanksgiving Day.
What Is Thanksgiving Day?
It’s a Day, people give thanks to God for different reasons. Some countries map out a day, yearly, to celebrate Thanksgiving. They give thanks to God for the harvest. ThanksGiving Days are very important, some people might argue that every day is Thanksgiving day because there is always something to give Thanks about, but having a day, just like Christmas day, to celebrate Thanksgiving makes it pretty special.
Well, about the question I asked myself earlier, I still had something to be thankful for. I had graduated from college and got two remote jobs, and I loved my jobs so much, and most importantly I was very much alive and healthy to go about my daily activities. This was enough to be grateful for. Yes, It was so hard to watch my single mum die like that but I had to pick myself up and remind myself that it is not the end of the world and again, there’s always something to be grateful for.
Just maybe, I will be celebrating Thanksgiving Day, after all, I thought to myself. I thought of how to make Thanksgiving Day a memorable one for me, since it’s been a while since I celebrated anything, ow! how much I missed my Mum’s recipe for the Thanksgiving Dinner. ThanksGiving was just in a few days and I had to plan quickly. I made my guest list and sent it out and ten of my friends promised to be available on Thanksgiving day, to celebrate with me. I wanted the Thanksgiving Dinner to be the highlight of Thanksgiving Day, so I thought of what to serve for dinner, to treat my friends to a delicious meal and a memorable dinner and an idea struck…
