After recently being delayed to December 2018, the standalone Aquaman will hit movie screens a few months later than expected. Fans of course will get a look at the character of Aquaman later in 2017 when he appears alongside his fellow DCEU heroes in Justice League, after already catching a brief glimpse of him in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and a longer glimpse in the recently-released Justice League trailer.

As for the standalone film, very little is known about the plot, which is to be expected for a movie that’s still over 18 months away from release. Director James Wan is willing to drop only general hints, saying the movie will be a swashbuckling adventure akin to Raiders of the Lost Ark or Romancing the Stone but set on the high seas. The shoot for such an action-packed movie is sure to be a physically demanding one requiring the actors to train hard and learn lots of cool fighting techniques.

Jason Momoa has already demonstrated his fighting ability in movies and on TV, and it looks like co-star Amber Heard is working hard to prepare for the film. Twitter user Fantastik Cadde posted video of Heard showing off her new fighting moves. In the video, we see Heard effortlessly taking on a pair of “attackers,” using smooth martial arts moves to flip them to the mat.

This isn’t the first time video footage or still images of Heard’s training have found their way onto the internet (Heard herself has posted images to her personal Instagram account). By the time Aquaman begins shooting, Heard should be in great shape and able to take on just about anything Wan chooses to throw at her, whether under the water or on dry land.

In addition to action scenes, Wan has said there will be a love-hate dynamic between Momoa’s Aquaman and Heard’s character Mera. He said the two will start off not liking each other but will form a bond as they work together on their dangerous quest. A hero and heroine initially fighting but slowly warming to each other through a shared struggle is classic arc in adventure movies. That particular dynamic was actually done close to perfection by Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road.

Aquaman is expected to go before cameras in Australia beginning in May. Momoa and Heard will be joined in the cast by Nicole Kidman as the warrior Queen Atlanna, Patrick Wilson as Orm, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the villain Black Manta.
